Indian Tanker Sinks After Attack in Red Sea, Crew Rescued by Yemeni Coast Guard
An Indian-flagged tanker, MSV Faize Noore Oliya, sank in the Red Sea after coming under attack off the coast of Oman on Tuesday. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that all 14 crew members were rescued safely by the Yemeni Coast Guard and brought to the Port of Mokha.
According to Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, the vessel was hit by a projectile near Yemeni waters, causing it to capsize and sink. The tanker was carrying oil from Saudi Arabia when it came under attack.
The MEA strongly condemned the attack on the Indian-flagged vessel, saying that continuing incidents of attacks on commercial shipping in the region are 'deeply worrisome'. The Ministry emphasized that the targeting of commercial shipping must end and free navigation through international waterways be restored at the earliest.
