India's Fuel Costs Surge as CNG Prices Hike Again
The Delhi-NCR region is facing another hike in fuel costs as Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) has increased the price of compressed natural gas by ₹3.89 per kg across its Delhi-NCR geographical areas, effective 6 am on August 29.
In Delhi, CNG now costs ₹86.98 per kg, up from ₹83.09, while in Noida and Ghaziabad it's ₹95.59 per kg, in Gurugram it's ₹92.01, and in Meerut it's ₹95.47.
The price revision has been made due to higher imported spot LNG costs and disruptions and uncertainty affecting gas cargo movements through the Strait of Hormuz.
This is the fifth CNG price hike in Delhi-NCR this year, with a cumulative increase of ₹6 per kg through four revisions in May.
CNG increases will likely affect commercial vehicle operators who depend heavily on the fuel, leading to a possible strike by transport bodies if fares are not revised. The impact may extend beyond transport fares, with higher logistics and freight costs potentially feeding into the prices of goods transported across the region.
