India's Fuel Stocks Can Withstand Strait of Hormuz Disruption for 76-80 Days
India's Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri stated that the country has sufficient fuel reserves to withstand a temporary disruption in global energy supplies. The minister said India currently possesses fuel stocks capable of meeting domestic demand for approximately 76-80 days.
The reserves include strategic petroleum reserves, inventories maintained by refineries, and commercial stocks held by oil marketing companies. Puri expressed confidence that even if oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz were halted for around a month, India would be able to manage the situation without facing an immediate fuel shortage.
India's dependence on imported crude continues to rise, with imports accounting for nearly 90% of the country's crude requirement. The government has strengthened relationships with multiple energy-producing nations to reduce dependence on any single supplier and expanded LPG storage capacity and accelerated domestic exploration efforts.
