India's Gas Demand Surges 6.8% as LNG Supplies Recover from Iran Crisis Disruptions
India's natural gas demand rebounded strongly in June, rising by 6.8% compared to the previous month as liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies recovered from disruptions caused by the Iran crisis.
The recovery pushed overall gas consumption above pre-Iran crisis levels, with a notable increase in demand across key sectors such as city gas distribution, fertilisers, power generation, and industrial users.
According to a research report by JM Financial, gas consumption increased by 12.6 million metric standard cubic metres per day (mmscmd) in June compared to the previous month, with LNG demand rising by 13% to around 110 mmscmd.
The improvement in LNG supplies was driven by alternative sourcing arrangements that bridged the supply gap and supported consumption recovery.
