India's Gem and Jewellery Exports Rise Amid Global Challenges
Gem and jewellery exports in India have shown resilience despite a challenging global environment. According to data, exports between April and July increased by two per cent to $9.17 billion (₹87,078 crore). However, the growth was largely driven by gold jewellery shipments, which rose nine per cent in June to $1.04 billion (₹9,972 crore) due to strong demand from countries like UAE, Hong Kong, Singapore, and UK.
The easing of gold prices is expected to support demand in key consuming markets. Despite a decline in cut and polished diamond exports by 18 per cent to $876 million (₹8,398 crore), the overall exports were up marginally at $2.35 billion against $2.34 billion logged in the same period last year.
Kirit Bhansali, Chairman of GJEPC, said that despite a challenging global environment, gem and jewellery exports have shown encouraging resilience, with value-added segments such as studded gold jewellery, silver, and platinum jewellery leading the way.
