India's gold demand declined by 6% in Q2 to 131.4 tonnes, but the value of purchases reached a record Rs 1,98,100 crore, up 50% year-on-year.

The World Gold Council (WGC) attributed this increase in value to elevated gold prices, despite historically high prices deterring some consumers.

However, investors continued to buy gold, with the WGC expecting investment demand to remain strong in the second half of 2026, supported by festive and wedding season spending.
