India's Growth Resilience Tested by Global Uncertainty
The finance ministry of India has highlighted the country's growth resilience despite global uncertainty caused by the West Asia conflict. The recent escalation of tensions in the region has led to increased economic risks worldwide, but domestic demand continues to support India's growth momentum.
The ministry warned that upside risks to inflation and current account deficits persist, while downside risks to growth remain a concern. A sustained increase in global crude oil prices could re-emerge as a risk for financing both the fiscal deficit and the current account balance.
The finance ministry emphasized the need for swift policy responses and reforms to woo foreign and domestic investors. It also highlighted the importance of building adequate buffers across energy and industrial metals to ensure India's industrial and macroeconomic stability.
In addition, the ministry flagged the concentration risk embedded in India's industrial metal supply chains, citing the recent flooding in Chile as a potential threat to supplies of critical metals such as copper. The ministry noted that prices of industrial commodities, including critical minerals and rare earths, have remained elevated in July.
