India's LPG- PNG Switch: Surrender Rules in Place for Households

The Indian government has introduced new rules for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) customers to switch to piped natural gas (PNG) connections. Households with PNG connections are required to surrender their LPG connections within 30 days of installation.

According to the revised Liquefied Petroleum Gas (Regulation of Supply and Distribution) Amendment Order, 2026, one household will only have one cooking gas connection, eliminating dual connections.

Mahanagar Gas, a leading PNG distributor, has issued an advisory on the benefits of switching from traditional LPG cylinders to PNG. Benefits include continuous gas supply, no cylinder bookings or replacements, and safer, cleaner, and more convenient cooking.
