India's PNG Push: Household LPG Connections at Risk of Cancellation
The Indian government has issued new directions to states and Union Territories to increase the use of piped natural gas (PNG) in areas where the pipeline network is available. The move aims to reduce dependence on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), improve gas supply management, and make the system more secure and digital.
Under the new rules, households that continue using LPG despite receiving a notice to shift to PNG may have their LPG connection cancelled. This means they will no longer be allowed to use an LPG cylinder connection in the same way.
The Petroleum Ministry has asked states to identify areas and housing societies where PNG connections have already reached households. Customers in these areas will be given a notice to take a PNG connection, with a deadline for doing so.
