India's Wheat Exports Set for Record Surge Amid Global Demand
India's wheat export opportunity has reached over $1.5 billion as the country's record harvest and surplus stock meet domestic food security needs, according to a recent ASSOCHAM report.
The report noted that India's gradual reopening of exports coincides with strong domestic production, comfortable stocks, and efforts by major global buyers to diversify their sources.
India produced a record 120.7 million tonnes (MMT) of wheat in 2025-26, retaining its position as the world's second-largest wheat producer. The country's Central Pool had 51.3 MMT of wheat stocks as of May 28, 2026, against the prescribed buffer norm of 27.58 MMT for July 1.
India has a price advantage in global markets, with its wheat MSP for FY2026-27 equivalent to around $268 per tonne, compared to an international wheat price of about $303 per tonne in May 2026.
