Indonesia Leads Southeast Asia's Gold Market Surge
Indonesia's gold market has seen significant growth in the first half of this year, surpassing the combined sales of Thailand and Vietnam. According to newly-released statistics, Indonesia witnessed a surge in sales of gold bars and coins, amounting to 38.1 tonnes.
This figure is impressive not only because it outperforms its regional counterparts but also because it tripled the total demand for gold in Malaysia and Singapore combined, which stood at 12.1 tonnes. The second quarter saw Indonesia leading in regional sales with an impressive 14.5 tonnes, emerging as one of the world's strongest-performing gold markets.
The World Gold Council attributes this remarkable performance to several factors, including the weakening currency and uncertainties surrounding the domestic economic outlook, which have emphasized gold's role as a store of value.
