Indonesia Sets New Crude Oil Production Target of 612,500 bpd for 2027
Indonesia's Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Minister Bahlil Lahadalia has announced a new national crude oil lifting target of 612,500 barrels per day (bpd) for 2027. This is an increase from the previous year's budget target of 610,000 bpd.
The projected rise in production will be supported by new wells in several regions, including offshore Madura developed by Petronas, Malaysia's state-owned energy company. The ministry also plans to scale up output using Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) technology and potential new wells in Sumatra.
Indonesia has struggled to meet its current production goals, with average crude oil lifting standing at 578,156 bpd as of July 31, 2026, falling short of the 610,000 bpd target. Bahlil attributed the deficit to operational setbacks and natural depletion across major production hubs.
The Cepu Block, which straddles Central Java and East Java, saw its peak output drop from 185,000 bpd down to 140,000 bpd due to technical issues. Operations at the Rokan Block in Sumatra were also crippled by gas pipeline leaks and electrical grid failures.
