President Prabowo Subianto boasted of Indonesia's shift from being a rice importer to an exporter at the BRICS gathering in New Delhi. He mentioned how Jakarta could play a role in helping feed the world.

Indonesia has reached self-sufficiency in both commodities, according to the government. The country has clinched a deal to sell 1,000 tons of rice to Malaysia and made its first-ever corn exports to the close neighbor last year.

The BRICS leaders unanimously adopted the New Delhi Declaration, which includes setting up a grain trading platform and facilitating intra-BRICS trade for agricultural products and food production inputs. Members backed a plan to promote resilient and non-discriminatory supply chains and improve value chains and sustainable agricultural practices.
