IndyCar Races into Sustainability with Indiana-Sourced Ethanol Fuel

Indiana corn farmers have teamed up with IndyCar to make a new fuel lineup for the 2027 racing season. The new fuel, made by Shell and powered by ethanol sourced from Indiana farms, is expected to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 70% compared to standard gasoline.

'Ethanol is a major industry in our state and accounts for more than 40% of our corn grind,' said J.R. Roesner, an Indiana Corn Growers Association board member and corn farmer from Ferdinand in southern Indiana.

The partnership between IndyCar and Indiana farmers aims to support the state's economy by bringing the ethanol supply chain back home. Local farmers near ethanol plants can earn a premium of 18-23 cents per bushel thanks to this new arrangement.
