Inflation Rises as Gasoline Prices Jump Again
The US Bureau of Labor Statistics released its inflation report for August on Friday morning. The data showed that overall inflation rose 3.4% year-over-year, with gasoline prices being a major contributor to this increase.
Gasoline prices surged by 3.9% in August alone, accounting for more than a third of the monthly increase in all items. Fuel oil also saw a significant rise, increasing by 10.1% after decreasing by 1.7% in July.
The jump in oil prices is attributed to the ongoing conflict with Iran and shrinking global oil supplies. The inflation report does not take into account recent developments, such as Brent crude oil reaching $100 and diesel hitting an all-time high of $6 per gallon.
