Investment Demand Drives Global Gold Prices
The World Gold Council (WGC) has released its latest report on gold demand, forecasting that investment will continue to lead gold prices for the remainder of 2026. According to the WGC, total global gold demand in Q2/2026 reached 1,269 tons, a slight decrease compared to the same period last year. However, accumulated demand over the first six months of the year increased by 2% to 2,522 tons, with a market value of $380 billion.
The WGC attributes the increase in value to the high gold price level, which remained steady at an average of $4,506.29 per ounce in Q2/2026. This is 8% lower than the peak reached in the first quarter but still 37% higher than the same period last year.
Regarding investment demand, the WGC believes that it will remain a key driver of gold market growth in the coming months. The organization expects a surge in decentralized trading (OTC) transactions and buying power from Asia to support this trend.
