IOC Ramps Up LPG Output as Strait of Hormuz Disruptions Test India's Energy Security
Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has increased liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) production by nearly 30% in response to disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical waterway for global energy supplies. The company's chairman, Arvinder Singh Sahney, said that IOC diversified crude sourcing and adjusted refinery operations to maintain continuity of energy supplies.
India imports over 88% of its crude oil requirement, with nearly 45% of crude imports and 90% of LPG imports linked to the Strait of Hormuz. The disruption has forced IOC to rework refinery operations and secure alternative supplies from various geographies.
The company maintained product availability across the country despite having to shift away from Middle Eastern crude grades. Sahney said that IOC's teams responded with agility, diversifying crude sourcing, adjusting refinery operations, and strengthening supply-chain coordination to address supply gaps.
