An ethanol plant in north-central Iowa is preparing for an above-average corn harvest. According to Dave Sovereign, chairman of the board at Golden Grain Energy in Mason City, the crop has made up ground after a wet and delayed spring.

The corn harvest could begin by mid-September, and Sovereign believes that many farmers have taken steps to keep their crops healthy, including spraying with fungicides. This should result in good stands and a strong yield.

Giving an overview of the plant's operations, Sovereign mentioned that they are getting things cleaned up and making room for the incoming crop. The bins need to be cleaned out and the aeration system needs to be working properly, as well as the conveyor system.
