Iowa is witnessing a surge in demand for E15 ethanol-blended fuel. According to the Iowa Department of Revenue, over 46 million gallons of E15 were distributed in August alone, surpassing May's record of 48 million gallons.

The strong sales are putting E15 on track to become Iowa's top-selling fuel by 2026, overtaking E10, which currently holds the top spot. Monte Shaw, executive director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association (IRFA), expects E15 to surpass E10 in total sales this year.

E15 contains up to 15% ethanol compared to E10's 10%, and its growing popularity is providing a boost to demand for corn-based ethanol produced in Iowa. IRFA is advocating for year-round, nationwide availability of E15, arguing that wider access would support the US renewable fuels industry and provide consumers with greater fuel choice.
