Iowa Gas Prices Level, Diesel Drops Amid Crude Oil Surge

The price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa remained steady this week, averaging $3.79 per gallon across the state. According to AAA, this is a significant increase from last year's average, with prices up 91 cents. In contrast, the national average fell four cents from last week to $4.04 per gallon.

Iowa diesel prices took a more substantial drop, decreasing by six cents to an average of $5.05 per gallon. This is still higher than the price a year ago but lower than the national diesel average of $5.36. Crude oil prices rose sharply this week, with West Texas Intermediate increasing by $7.62 per barrel to $83.23 and Brent crude rising by $9.36 to $88.88.

The price of natural gas also increased, rising 11 cents at the Henry Hub to $2.80 per million British thermal units. AAA will resume reporting Iowa retail heating oil and propane prices in October.
