Iowa's average gas price surged by 34 cents over the past week to reach $4.13 per gallon, according to AAA's latest fuel report.

This marks a significant increase from last year's average of $3.89 and now surpasses the national average of $4.09 by just 4 cents.

Diesel prices in Iowa also rose by 20 cents, reaching an average of $5.25 per gallon, although they remain below the national diesel average of $5.50.

The increase in fuel prices is attributed to a rise in crude oil prices, with West Texas Intermediate (WTI) climbing by $2.08 to $85.31 per barrel and Brent crude increasing by $2.55 to $91.43.
