Iowa's Rural Economy Shows Modest Growth Amid Concerns

The Rural Mainstreet Index for Iowa saw an uptick in August compared to July, but bank CEOs surveyed by Creighton University expressed concerns about hiring and farmland prices.

The index advanced nearly five points from July's reading, reaching a total of 42.6, though still below the 'growth neutral' mark of 50.

Credit is due to improving corn and soybean prices, according to Creighton economist Ernie Goss, who noted that grain prices have increased.

However, Goss cautioned that cattle prices may take a hit following President Trump's decision to allow more beef imports for 90 days. This move could negatively impact ranchers and farmers, as well as lower livestock prices.
