Iran Accused of Tanker Attack that Killed Filipino Sailors

The Strait of Hormuz has been in turmoil since the start of the US and Israel's war with Iran in February. Now, Saudi Arabia is condemning an alleged Iranian attack on a Saudi-owned tanker that killed two Filipino sailors. The Bahri shipping company confirmed that their vessel Sidr was involved in a security incident while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Monday night.

The incident occurred at around 23:40 local time (19:40 GMT) on Monday, and Sidr was hit by projectiles north of Oman's Musandam Peninsula. The Saudi foreign ministry expressed its condemnation of 'Iran's targeting of the Saudi tanker' and called for an end to escalation in the region.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical waterway through which a fifth of global oil and gas shipments pass. US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said 17 million barrels of oil flowed through the Strait on Monday, a record daily total since the start of the war.
