Iran Allows Select Iraqi Oil Tankers Through Strait of Hormuz After Diplomatic Pressure
Iran has granted permission to some Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, following requests from Baghdad. The decision was made during Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf's visit to Iraq.
Iraqi President Nizar Amedi confirmed that Tehran had facilitated crude shipments through the strategic waterway in recent days. However, he cautioned that security through the Strait remains complicated due to attacks and ship traffic remaining below pre-war levels.
B Baghdad is trying to expand its export channels, with plans to use Turkey's Ceyhan port, as well as routes via Syria's Baniyas port and Jordan's Aqaba port. However, realising these alternative bypass routes presents logistical and political hurdles, including a resolution of legal and tariff disputes.
