Iran and Armenia Form Joint Energy Working Group
Iran and Armenia have agreed to establish a joint working group in the energy sector. This move was announced by the Iranian Oil Ministry, citing remarks made by Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad during a meeting with Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan.
Paknejad stated that Iran has proposed the establishment of a new model for gas trade between the two countries. The current barter system, where gas is exchanged for electricity, would be replaced by a more comprehensive trade agreement. This proposal aims to explore energy cooperation with Armenia and even gas exports to other markets through Armenia.
The Iranian minister emphasized that there are suitable opportunities for the development of bilateral cooperation between Iran and Armenia, especially in the energy sector. During the meeting, Khudatyan expressed Armenia's interest in increasing bilateral cooperation and exchange volumes.
