Iran and Oman Agree on New Route Through Crucial Strait
Iran has reached an agreement with Oman to establish a new route for ships transiting the Strait of Hormuz, according to Tehran's foreign ministry. This comes after Iran seized de facto control of the strait following the US and Israeli war against the country on February 28.
The Strait of Hormuz is a strategic waterway for global energy trade, carrying around a fifth of the world's oil and LNG exports before the current conflict. The new route has been agreed upon by both sides, with Iran stating that talks with Oman are moving forward.
However, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei warned that even if an understanding is reached, the strait would not be completely safe for all passing vessels due to ongoing US actions. He specifically mentioned the naval blockade and aggressive actions against Iran as factors contributing to the insecurity of the Strait.
