Iran and Saudi Arabia Discuss Regional Tensions Amid Yemen Conflict
Saudi Arabia and Iran have engaged in diplomatic efforts to address regional 'insecurity' amid escalating tensions, particularly in Yemen. The two countries have been at odds during the wider Middle East conflict, with Tehran launching strikes on Saudi oil infrastructure and US-linked targets.
Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi spoke with his Saudi counterpart Faisal bin Farhan about the escalation of tensions and growing insecurity in the region. The two parties emphasized the need for continued cooperation and diplomatic efforts to prevent the spread of tensions and reestablish stability.
The conversation came as Yemen continues to experience fighting, with the Houthis launching a new offensive towards the strategic Bab al-Mandab strait. The waterway has gained importance as a transit route since the start of the wider Middle East war, which saw Iran blockade the Strait of Hormuz.
