Iran and Tajikistan Eye Major Boost in Oil Product Trade
Tajikistan and Iran are aiming to significantly increase oil product trade between the two countries. The exchange of oil products currently stands at around 800,000 tons per year, but this volume could increase several-fold following talks with the Iranian side and the launch of a joint working group.
Azim Ibrohim, Tajikistan's Minister of Transport, made the remarks after meeting with Iranian officials. He noted that while the existing transportation capacity is sufficient to handle the current volume, additional measures will be needed to develop transportation and logistics capacity in line with plans to increase the volume.
Tajikistan's Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Daler Juma, also expressed optimism about the prospects for economic cooperation between the two countries. He stated that 'the prospects for economic cooperation between the two countries are clear' and emphasized that import and trade volumes depend on logistics issues.
