Iran and Tajikistan Form Working Group to Manage Oil Exports and Supplies
Iran and Tajikistan have formed a working group to manage surplus oil exports and crude supply. The working group aims to expand transport and logistics cooperation, including rail, road, and ports.
The agreement was reached during talks between Iran's Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad and Tajikistan's Minister of Energy and Water Resources, Dalir Juma, in Tehran. Paknejad noted that the discussions focused on exporting Iran's surplus oil products to help address issues Tajikistan is encountering.
The working group will also focus on drafting a long-term contract framework with Tajikistan regarding fuel supply and crude oil needed by its refineries. Tajik Minister Dalir Juma emphasized that Tajikistan is seeking to increase imports of oil products from Iran.
In addition to the energy cooperation, transport diplomacy was a key aspect of the talks. Farzaneh Sadegh, a senior official, noted an increase in international rail freight between Iran and Tajikistan in 2025 compared with the previous year.
