Iran and US Trade Blows as Shipping Assets Are Targeted
The conflict between Iran and the US has escalated with both sides launching attacks on each other's shipping assets. The US Central Command said it targeted five Iranian oil tankers after attempted Iranian missile attacks on a US Navy warship over the past two days.
Iran responded by firing ballistic missiles at a base used by US forces in Jordan, but the attack was largely ineffective with 18 of the 20 missiles intercepted by Jordan's air defences. The IRGC also warned that it would sharply escalate its response to any further attacks.
The Revolutionary Guards said if the enemy struck two or three Iranian targets, Iran would respond by hitting 20. They also announced plans to release maps of a new, much larger off-limits zone at sea.
