Iran, Armenia Chart New Roadmap for Energy Cooperation
Iran and Armenia are strengthening their energy cooperation, with plans to redefine gas trade between the two countries. Iranian Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad announced an agreement to form a joint specialized working group in the energy sector during a meeting with Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure Davit Khudatyan.
Paknejad emphasized that Iran is ready to assist Armenia within its capabilities and develop cooperation, particularly in the energy sector. The current model of cooperation between the two countries is based on gas-for-electricity barter, but Iran has proposed a new commercial model for gas exports.
The joint working group will examine the possibility of expanding gas trade beyond Armenia's market and through its territory. This plan requires technical and commercial complexities, which can be addressed through expert studies to prepare the ground for implementation.
