Iran Attacks Saudi Oil Tanker in Strait of Hormuz

Saudi Arabia's national shipping company Bahri reported that one of its oil tankers, Sidr, was attacked by Iran in the Strait of Hormuz on Monday. The incident resulted in the deaths of two Filipino seafarers.

The attack occurred at 23:40 local time (2040 GMT) while the tanker was transiting through the narrow waterway that connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman. This strategic location is critical for global energy exports, with about one-fifth of global oil and liquefied natural gas trade passing through it.

Bahri stated that they are in continuous contact with the vessel and are coordinating closely with relevant authorities and maritime industry stakeholders. The Saudi foreign ministry emphasized the need to halt escalations and respect international maritime safety and global energy supplies.
