Iran Blames Foreign Aggression for Persian Gulf Oil Spill Amid Rising Tensions

The recent oil spill along Qeshm Island's shores in Iran has been attributed to 'foreign military aggression' by Iranian officials. Kazem Gharibabadi, the Deputy Foreign Minister, made this accusation on social media platform X, pointing fingers at US military activities in the Strait of Hormuz.

Gharibabadi emphasized the need for Iran to take control over the strait and demanded a robust management framework following the reported contamination. This echoes earlier statements by Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei, who stated that oil contamination reaching the coastlines had been documented through shared videos.

Baqaei pointed evidence towards a foreign bulk carrier as the source of the spill, with pollution traced to key sites and water surfaces. However, US-based TankerTrackers counters these claims, suggesting an Iranian attack caused the oil spill.
