The recent disruption in the Strait of Hormuz has led to tensions between Iran and the United States. According to Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei, Washington is attempting to shift blame for the instability onto Tehran. He stated that the US started the conflict but is now trying to make the rest of the world bear the consequences.

The Strait of Hormuz is a critical maritime passage between the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, through which approximately 20% of global oil supplies and around 25% of liquefied natural gas (LNG) exports pass. This makes it a vital artery for international trade and economic stability.

Baghaei noted that shipping in the strait was suspended only after the conflict began in the region, suggesting that Iran is not responsible for the current situation. The Strait has remained open until February 28, but since then, tensions have escalated.
