Iran Blames US Military Presence for Gulf Oil Pollution
The Iranian government has accused the United States of causing widespread marine pollution in the Gulf region. According to Esmaeil Baghaei, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman, the US military presence is responsible for the environmental damage.
In a recent press briefing, Baghaei pointed to oil pollution that reached the shores of Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz as evidence of the harm caused. He stated that the damage stems from decades of military activity and commercial shipping, imposing 'trillions of dollars in damage' on Iran's coastal areas.
Baghaei questioned who bears responsibility for compensating these damages, suggesting it could be the nations consuming inexpensive energy exported from the region or the aggressors involved in military operations.
