Iran Briefs Parliament on Regional Developments Amid US Naval Blockade Tensions
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi briefed Parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission on regional developments, diplomatic efforts, and maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. The commission meeting focused on domestic developments, cooperation under the Iran-Oman memorandum of understanding, and security in the strait.
The parliamentary initiative comes amid heightened tensions over the strategic waterway following the US naval blockade targeting Iranian oil exports. Tehran has strongly rejected Washington's attempts to dictate maritime traffic terms in the area, stressing that the Strait of Hormuz must be addressed with due regard for Iran's sovereignty and its strategic role.
Iran emphasizes that the Strait of Hormuz is under the effective control of its armed forces, and any arrangement concerning maritime traffic must take into account the country's security interests. Tehran has been coordinating with Oman on a framework for maritime traffic through the strait.
