Iran Cease-Fire Hopes Send Oil Prices Plummeting
The ongoing conflict between Washington and Tehran has sent oil prices plummeting, with West Texas Intermediate crude trading near $76 per barrel. The recent cease-fire talks have raised hopes for a potential deal to end the conflict, which could lead to a further decline in oil prices to around $70-$75 per barrel.
However, if negotiators fail to reach an agreement and Iran continues to threaten ships trying to enter or leave the Persian Gulf, oil prices could quickly return to $90 or even $100 per barrel. The current slide in oil prices has already led to a sharp decline in gasoline prices, with the national average price of regular unleaded standing at $4.09 per gallon.
But even if a peace deal is reached, diesel prices are likely to remain higher due to Ukrainian drone strikes on Russian oil refineries cutting off a major source of diesel fuel from global markets.
