Iran Claims Missile Strikes on US Warships Amid Escalating Tensions
The military tensions between Iran and the United States have escalated further as both countries engaged in retaliatory strikes. Iranian state television broadcast footage claiming to show ballistic missile attacks on a US aircraft carrier and destroyer, which allegedly targeted the vessels with Iranian-made Qasem Basir missiles.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed that the two US warships were attacked because they had participated in a naval blockade of Iranian shipping. The IRGC also stated that the strikes damaged both vessels and forced them to withdraw from the area, but these claims could not be independently verified.
The US military said it had targeted three Iranian oil tankers linked to the Revolutionary Guard, permanently disabling two and destroying a third. The US described the vessels as part of a network generating funds for the IRGC and Iran-aligned groups in the region.
