Iran Cleans Up Southern Coasts Amid Fears of Wider Environmental Damage
Iran's southern coasts are undergoing a massive cleanup operation after being affected by oil pollution. The Department of Environment, led by Shina Ansari, is working in cooperation with executive bodies and local communities to restore the damaged areas.
The recent incident has brought attention to the broader environmental consequences of military activities and other operations in the Persian Gulf.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei warned that environmental protection must be an integral part of any future arrangements concerning the administration of the Strait of Hormuz. He pointed out that oil pollution along Qeshm's shores was only a visible example of wider pollution that has degraded the Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman over the past decades.
