Iran Conflict Boosts Big Oil's Profits by Billions
Oil prices have surged due to the ongoing conflict in Iran, resulting in a multibillion-dollar windfall for Big Oil companies. Global benchmark Brent crude has averaged around $97 per barrel in March, up 33% from February's average and significantly higher than January's.
The war has disrupted global energy supplies, halting nearly a fifth of the world's supply that passes through the Strait of Hormuz waterway. This disruption is expected to boost profits for Big Oil companies, with Chevron and Shell poised to reap significant benefits.
Analysts have revised their estimates for the first-quarter earnings of these companies upwards, with Chevron projected to make around $4 billion in additional revenues due to the price rise, while Exxon Mobil could add approximately $5.1 billion to its bottom line.
