Iran Conflict Drives Up Gas Prices in Central Texas
Central Texas drivers are feeling the pinch of rising gas prices, which have reached $3.70 per gallon in the Austin-San Marcos area, a 98-cent increase from last year, according to AAA Texas.
Doug Shupe, a spokesperson for AAA Texas, said that despite the higher prices, most people will not be deterred from traveling during Labor Day weekend, as many plan their trips well in advance.
Shupe noted that the conflict involving Iran has disrupted shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, which affects about one-fifth of the world's oil and gas supply, leading to higher fuel prices in the U.S.
