Iran Conflict Sends Oil Prices Soaring Amid Supply Disruption

The ongoing conflict in Iran has led to a surge in oil prices, pushing WTI crude above $82 and Brent above $88. This is up from around $73 before the conflict started. The supply disruption has significantly benefited oil giants Exxon Mobil (XOM) and Chevron, which reported combined quarterly earnings of $26.6 billion, more than double last year's figure.

The companies' integrated operations, covering production, refining, and marketing, allow them to capitalize on elevated prices despite rising gasoline costs for consumers. However, further escalation in the region could increase supply risks and profits, while a peace deal reopening the Strait of Hormuz might quickly reverse these gains.

Investors are advised to consider Exxon and Chevron's strong cash flow generation but remain cautious about relying solely on geopolitical tensions for stock gains.
