Iran Defiant on Strait as Trump Tells Americans to Accept Higher Gas Prices
The war between Iran and the US continues to escalate, with no signs of progress towards peace talks. On Saturday, Iranian deputy foreign minister Kazem Gharibabadi said that the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until the US accepts defeat.
The strait is a critical waterway through which one-fifth of the world's oil exports pass. However, since the war began on February 28, traffic has been severely restricted, with only two vessels passing through on Friday.
In response to the conflict, US President Donald Trump urged Americans to accept higher gasoline prices, saying that paying 'a tiny little bit more' for fuel was worth ensuring an 'evil country' did not have a nuclear weapon.
