Iran Demands Conditions Met Before Strait of Hormuz Reopens
Iran has called on the US to meet its conditions before reopening the Strait of Hormuz, which has been closed due to tensions between the two countries.
According to Mohsen Rezaei, Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary, the US must take practical steps to fulfill Iran's conditions before Tehran will reopen the strait.
In a meeting with Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Tehran, Rezaei stated that Iran distrusts Washington and accused the US of repeatedly betraying diplomacy and negotiations.
The US has maintained that the Strait of Hormuz is open and that millions of barrels of oil are passing through it every day. President Donald Trump said at a White House press conference that US forces have cleared the waterway of mines and are closely monitoring maritime activity.
