Iran Denies Trump's Claim of Destroyed Oil Hub
Tensions between Iran and the US escalated on Sunday as US President Donald Trump claimed that Kharg Island, Iran's main oil hub, had been destroyed. However, Iranian officials quickly denied this claim, calling it 'ridiculous'.
Hamid Bovard, CEO of Iran's state-owned National Iranian Oil Company, stated that the situation on Kharg Island is normal and that oil production and operations have not stopped. He explained that workers are busy repairing previous damage and modernizing infrastructure.
The US had attacked a rocket launch center on Larak Island, about 660 kilometers east of Kharg, earlier this month. In response, Iranian media reported that Iran attacked two US military bases in Jordan and the Al Minhad airbase in the UAE.
Trump's claim was made through an AI-generated video posted on his Truth Social account without giving further details. Reuters reported that tests using software that identifies AI-manipulated content showed the video was likely artificially generated.
