Iran Discovers 7.5 Trillion Cubic Feet of Gas Amid US-Israel Tensions

Iran has discovered over 7.5 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of natural gas in its southern Fars province, a significant find amid ongoing tensions with the US and Israel.

The Iranian Oil Minister, Mohsen Paknejad, announced that around 5.7 tcf of the newly discovered gas is recoverable, equivalent to about 15 years of production from one phase of South Pars, the world's largest gas field shared with Qatar.

The discovery also includes gas condensates worth 'tens of billions of dollars', according to Paknejad, who stated that Iran plans to develop the resources as soon as possible.

However, actual production is expected to take years due to the disruptions caused by Western sanctions, underinvestment, and power shortages in Iran's energy sector.
