Iran Discovers Major Gas Reserves Amid Ongoing War

Iran's energy sector has suffered significantly due to the ongoing war in the Middle East. Despite this, the country has made a major discovery of new gas reserves. The Iranian Oil Minister, Mohsen Paknejad, announced that more than 200 billion cubic meters of natural gas were discovered in the south of Fars province.

Paknejad stated that over 160 billion cubic meters could be extracted from the field. He described it as 'sweet natural gas', which has very little hydrogen sulphide, resulting in lower operating and development costs.

The discovery comes months into the war that has affected Iran's energy infrastructure and production. The joint US-Israeli strikes on Iran have targeted its energy facilities, including gas production sites and oil depots.
