Iran Discovers Major New Natural Gas Field in Fars Province
Iran has announced a significant discovery in its energy sector with the unveiling of the Takht-e natural gas field in Fars Province. The field is estimated to contain over 7.5 trillion cubic feet of natural gas, providing a substantial boost to the country's domestic energy capacity.
The recoverable gas volume from the new domain is equivalent to roughly 15 years of output from phase one of Iran's South Pars gas field. According to Oil Minister Mohsen Paknejad, Takht-e contains 'sweet' natural gas with relatively low levels of corrosive sulphur compounds, expected to streamline development timelines and lower operational expenses.
The discovery is valued at tens of billions of dollars, representing a new source of wealth for the country. The Iranian government intends to fast-track the field's development to funnel fresh gas supplies into domestic heavy industry and energy-intensive sectors.
