Iran Dismisses US 'Toughest Sanctions in History' as a Sign of Desperation
The US has threatened to impose its 'toughest sanctions in history' on Iran, according to Treasury Secretary Scott Besant. However, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi dismissed these threats as a sign of desperation and said that they will not break the country.
Araghchi stated that the new American measures are simply a repetition of already familiar scenarios and will also fail. He emphasized that Washington should talk to Tehran with respect in order to find a solution based on justice and honor.
The Strait of Hormuz, a crucial waterway for global oil supplies, has been blocked by Iran, leading to a sharp rise in crude prices. The US is increasing economic pressure on countries that provide support to Iran, including China, which bought over 80% of Iranian oil in 2025.
