Iran Explosions Fuel Oil Price Surge to $88.70
Crude oil prices surged to their highest level since late July after reports of explosions in southern Iran, including at the Chabahar port. The West Texas Intermediate (WTI) price reached a session high of just above $88.70, while Brent crude neared $93.50.
The sudden spike in oil prices was attributed to unconfirmed damage reports from the explosions, which were said to have targeted Iran's export capacity rather than transit capacity. The market is buying an intention rather than a shortfall, with no damage assessment existing yet.
However, analysts noted that the plan behind the explosions aims to make the Strait of Hormuz passable, which would result in more barrels moving through the area, not fewer. This could lead to a change in the market's perception of the situation and potentially impact oil prices.
